Jimi is a top-down triangular shawlette guaranteed to keep you warm and toasty on cold winter days. Its versatile shape can be worn in many different configurations—wrapped about the neck as a scarf with the tip either in front or in back, or draped over the shoulders as a shawl. Starting with alternating garter stripes of two complimentary colors, Jimi ends with a stylish border of thicker stripes flanking a pretty mesh lace band.

New knitters 0ften end up knitting a lot of simple rectangles and squares—I know I did! Jimi was designed specifically as a project for beginner knitters who are looking to step up their skills. With this pattern, you’ll learn how to: shape a triangular shawl with yarn over increases; use stitch markers; alternate skeins for 2-color, 2-row stripes; weave in yarn tails neatly in garter stitch; and work decreases paired with yarn overs to create mesh lace.

Because Jimi was conceived as a teaching pattern, there is a 3-page tutorial section after the instructions. There you’ll find links to great videos showing how to work stitches that may be unfamiliar, a phototutorial showing how to alternate skeins while carrying yarn up the side, and detailed blocking information and photos.

Jimi is shown worked in two different colors of worsted weight yarn, but may be worked in any weight you like. Try using a variegated or self striping yarn with a coordinating solid yarn for a completely different look. Details about how to increase the size are included in the tutorial section.

Of course, Jimi isn’t just for beginners—it can also be knitted by experienced knitters who are looking for a quick knit that is perfect for gifts, stash busting and TV knitting.
