Knitting Notions is a family owned and operated business. We opened in 2005 with our first product, our handmade Yarn Swifts, and have added to our product line as our business grew. We now produce a large line of handmade wood and leather products as well as hand dyed merino wool yarns. 99% of the products that we sell are made by us or another American small business.

Our wood bowls are made in our own workshop. We have 5 size ranges currently in stock. The 2 largest sizes will work best for average sized balls or cakes of yarn (100g or 4oz.). These have a diameter of at least a 5.5" - 6" priced at $70 and 4.75" - 5" priced at $55. The Yarn Bowls ID'd as Segmented Cherry and Segmented Walnut are representative photos since we have multiple quantities which are very similar. The bowl you receive may vary slightly from the photo for these options.
We currently have three other size ranges. Medium size bowls that range from 4" - 4.25" Diameter and are priced at $40. These will work for small yarn cakes or balls of about 50g or less or for other uses.
The Small size bowls range in size from 3.75" - 3.5" Diameter priced at $30 and are great for holding beads, stitch markers, jewelry, etc.
Mini size bowls are 3" - 3.25" Diameter or they are more shallow. These have lots of uses for anyone and make a nice inexpensive gift priced at $20.
PLEASE READ THE SIZE DESCRIPTIONS CAREFULLY WHEN MAKING YOUR SELECTION FROM THE DROP DOWN MENU.
Our yarn bowls are made from domestic and exotic hardwoods. We use linseed oil and wax as a finish which allows for the natural grain and color of the wood to show through. The applied finish is not intended for use with foods or liquids.
When used as a yarn bowl, they are a great way to hold your yarn that you are working from so that it doesn't get dirty or roll away from you. They work well for pulling the yarn from either the outside or the center of the ball. We don't add a hooked cut out that many yarn bowl makers use. We find that by leaving them without the cut out they are more versatile for other purposes. Great for gifts, even for non-knitters.
Descriptions of the size and the woods used are given in the Yarn Bowl ID Selection menu. The dimensions given are the Diameter (D), which is the measurement across the top, and the Height, (H) which is the measurement taken on the outside from the bottom to the top.
